TDP Let Loose Reign of Terror in Andhra Pradesh: YS Jagan

Hyderabad: YSR Congress Party president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Sunday submitted a memorandum to President of India Pranab Mukherjee regarding the state of affairs in Andhra Pradesh under the Telugu Desam Party and said that the TDP has let loose a reign of terror in the state.

Some of the issues highlighted by YS Jagan are the call money scam and related proceedings in AP Assembly, special status for Andhra Pradesh and the formation of Tribes Advisory Council. Chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu has given instructions to the bureaucrats to involve TDP workers in all activities of the state administration, YS Jagan said. Consequently, TDP MPs and MLAs started their rein of terror, he alleged and added that the call money scam is one such by-product of the chief minister's instructions. The scam involves lending money at high interest rates and when the borrowers fail to repay their property is taken away and on occasions the borrowers are forced into flesh trade, he explained. When the issue was raised in the Assembly, members of the TDP tried to stifle the opposition, he said and highlighted the incident when MLA Roja of the YSRCP was suspended by the Speaker without any regard for Assembly rules.
The YSR Congress chief also highlighted the grant of special status for Andhra Pradesh post bifurcation. He reminded the President that the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had given directions to the Planning Commission to grant special status for Andhra Pradesh for a period of five years. However, the chief minister has not raised this matter with the central government nor taken any concrete steps in this matter so far, he said. On the contrary, Chandrababu Naidu and his cabinet colleagues are making contradictory statements on the issue to confuse the people, YS Jagan said.
The state government despite being in power for 18 months has not formed a Tribes Advisory Council, the YSRCP leader said. The formation of the Council is mandated by law to look into the welfare and advancement of scheduled tribes in the state. Though there is no such Council in place, the state government is taking major decisions that have a huge impact on the tribal populace in the state, YS Jagan said.
He called on the President to look into the issues raised by him and order a high level probe into the call money scam. He requested the first citizen to advise the central government on the grant of special status for Andhra Pradesh at the earliest.
