TDP's Soumya wins in Nandigama bypoll

TDP candidate Tangirala Soumya rode on a massive sympathy wave to win Nandigama assembly election. She won by a record margin of  74,827 votes.

The election was necessitated due to the death of victorious TDP candidate Tangirala Prabhakar Rao. He died even before taking oath as the MLA. In deference to the convention of not fighting the elections in seats where the sitting MLA dies, the YSRCP opted out of the contest paving way for Soumya's victory.

She got 99,748 votes, while Baburao got 24,921 votes. The lone independent candidate got 650 votes. Significantly, the Congress candidate did well and retained his security deposit.
