Tollywood's latest blockbuster Arjun Reddy is being remade in Tamil with Chiyaan Vikram's son Dhruv reprising Vijay Devarkonda's role. It's Dhruv's debut movie.

The much talked about Tamil remake will be directed by none other than ace national award-winning director Bala, known for his dark films such as Naan Kadavul and Paradesi among others. Vikram announced the decision on his official Instagram handle.

The film was acclaimed for lending a new direction to Telugu cinema. It was hailed by many critics but was also panned by many others for its version of masculinity, which also raised the hackles of women’s organisations, particularly in Vijayawada. The film despite being plagued by controversies did well at the box office.

The yet-to-be titled movie will introduce Chiyaan Vikram’s son Dhruv into showbiz. The collaboration assumes more significance considering the Bala’s Sethu is one of the most important films in Vikram’s career as it gave the actor a big break. Sethu also received the National Award for the best feature film in Tamil. The duo worked together in Pithamagan, another iconic movie, that earned Vikram a National Award for his performance.

Arjun Reddy which was a runaway hit in Telugu earned much acclaim for its raw treatment and also for Vijay Devarkonda’s uninhibited performance. Also, the film documents the intense love-hate relationship between the leads in what industry people would term a multiplex film.

Interestingly, Bala, known for his rural-centric subjects, has been chosen to handle the remake. This will also be the ace director’s first remake.
