T'gana: TRS MLAs, MLCs discuss development, welfare programmes

Hyderabad: The ongoing development and welfare programmes in Telangana were discussed at a meeting of the ruling TRS MLAs and MLCs. State Home Minister and senior TRS leader Nayani Narasimha Reddy told reporters that social security pensions and other government benefits would be disbursed to the needy.

Several ministers and other leaders also visited a residential colony in the city where the state government has constructed apartments for the poor. Similar houses are likely to be built for the poor elsewhere in the state.

The meeting came a day after the monsoon session of Legislative Assembly was adjourned ahead of schedule. Thirty opposition members were suspended from the Assembly earlier this week for the remainder of the session for disrupting the proceedings on farmers' issues.

Their demand was that the TRS government implement its farm loan waiver promise at one go instead of in phases as a means to address farmers' suicides. The ruling party, however, said the opposition Congress and TDP, who were in power during the last 58 years, were responsible for the poor state of affairs leading to farmers' suicides.
