'T' Cong leaders demand separate party convention

The proposed convention of ruling Congress in Andhra Pradesh, to discuss ways to strengthen the party, should be organised separately for Telangana and others, a section of Telangana Congress leaders said today.

Some Congress leaders from non-Telangana regions were creating hurdles in the formation of the separate state. Under these circumstances, we cannot share the dais with them, Congress MLA from Telangana Komatireddy Venkata Reddy told reporters here.
Venkata Reddy, Congress MPs Ponnam Prabhakar, G Vivek and others were speaking after conveying their concerns to state Congress president Botsa Satyanarayana. Vivek felt that the meeting can be organised separately — one day for Telangana and next day for non-Telangana regions.
The party convention was proposed to be held on September 23 here to discuss ways to strengthen the party organisation in the state, in the wake of the challenge from the YSRCP of Kadapa MP Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy and main opposition TDP.
Hundreds of party leaders at various levels would take part in the proposed brain-storming session. Union Minister and AICC general secretary Ghulam Nabi Azad, the incharge of party affairs in AP, was also supposed to attended the meeting.
Meanwhile, party sources said the convention may not take place on September 23 as planned earlier as the date may not be convenient for all to attend.
