T-20 World Cup Hero’s Father Stabbed, Robbed By Unidentified Miscreants

Two youngsters aged between 20 to 25, came to purchase cold drinks when Sharma was about to close his confectionary shop.

Rohtak (Haryana): Former Indian cricketer Joginder Sharma's father — Om Prakash Sharma was stabbed by unidentified miscreants near Kathmandi here in the city on Saturday night.

According to the police, two youngsters aged between 20 to 25, came to purchase cold drinks when Sharma was about to close his confectionary shop. Later, the miscreants tried to take away cash from Sharma's pocket. Noticing this, Sharma resisted them. Immediately, one of the youth took out a knife and tried to stab Sharma. As a result, Sharma suffered injuries on knee.

The miscreants made away with Rs 7,000 from the drawer after leaving grievously injured Sharma inside the shop and locked from outside.

Sharma managed to call his son Deepak on phone. Sharma was then rushed to a nearby hospital where he is said to be out of danger. A case has been registered under Sections 342 and 379 B of the IPC based on the complaint from Deepak. The police are studying the CCTV footage to catch the accused.

Sharma's son Joginder Sharma, is remembered as the match-winning player for the Indian side during T-20 World Cup finals against Pakistan in 2007. He is presently discharging duties as Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in Hissar.
