Warangal: Due to an increased number of death cases at the exotic Bogatha waterfalls in the district, the forest officials have decided to restrict swimming by the visitors. Of late, a youth met a watery grave on last Tuesday taking the toll to nine who have drowned since 2014.

Explaining the reason for the closure, the district forest officer T. Ravi Kiran said that currently they are occupied with the Haritha Haram programme and no one is there to oversee. "We cannot afford to see increase of the death toll at the tourist spot. Since we are busy with the arrangements for the Haritha Haram programme, we have decided to close swimming temporarily," he said.

The officer added that in order to stop tourists from climbing to the top of the waterfalls fencing has been done and would put up sign boards where dangerous zones are spotted.

The Bogatha waterfalls dubbed as Telanagna's Niagara have seen a surge in the number of visitors for the past two years. However, the Telangana Tourism Department is not taking any measures to develop the place which has an immense tourism potential.
