New Delhi: Suspended Corporate Affairs Ministry officer B.K. Bansal, who was arrested for taking a bribe, and his son Yogesh, committed suicide by hanging themselves from ceiling fans at their apartment, police said on Tuesday.
According to the police, Bansal, 60, and his 30-year-old son were found hanging in separate rooms by their maid Rachna in their flat in Neelkanth apartment in east Delhi.
“Bansal’s maid found them hanging inside their flat when she reached there. She raised an alarm and police was informed around 9 am,” Deputy Commissioner of Police Rishipal said.
The officer further said that they found a suicide note. The incident took place months after the officer’s wife Satyabala, 57, and daughter Neha, 27, had committed suicide on July 19 following interrogation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
The CBI has said that it had arrested B.K. Bansal, director genral of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, who was dealing with matters related to alleged violations by a Mumbai-based pharmaceutical company, on charges of bribery.
CBI spokesperson Devpreet Singh earlier said that “Bansal was arrested for receiving a bribe of Rs 9 lakh for extending favours to a corporate firm. The money was being given outside a Delhi hotel.”
