Suspended cop Sarma held, remanded in custody

Former constable in the Police Transport Organisation Giri Prasada Sarma, who threatened to come out with ‘facts’ on large-scale irregularities in his department, was today arrested. He was remanded to 14 days judicial custody when he was produced before the Nampalli Court. He was later shifted to Chanchalguda Prison.

Sarma was planning a motorcycle rally in Hyderabad to bring to light the irregularities in the transport wing of the State Police. At a recently held press conference, he has already charged some senior officers in the organization with swindling of funds.

Earlier, Sarma was dismissed when he allegedly abducted the Superintendent of Police of the Transport Organization demanding a thorough probe into the money embezzlement in the organsiation. Though till now no inquiry has been ordered into his charges, Sarma was initially suspended for the episode and was later dismissed from service for “misconduct”.

Despite the promise made by the top police boss of the State, the Director General of police (DGP) that no action would be initiated against him for alleged kidnap of the constable, he was dismissed from service. Then Sarma threatened to come out with the goings on in the transport wing and even planned to produce series of relevant CDs to the mediapersons. The police today arrested him and he was remanded in custody.
