Hyderabad: Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) has cracked whip on students by not allotting hostel rooms to students who participated in protests last May on the grounds of disciplinary action.

As many as 61 students including 12 research scholars have been denied for re-admission into boys hostel.

The university has taken the stern action in view of the protests held in last May against the new hostel rules. The protest happened on May 13 and 14 and the administration also issued show cause notices to some of them who took part in the protest.

Meanwhile, students rue that despite the probe is going on and the allegations have not been proven, the management shouldn’t have taken such a step.

“If at all we are guilty, then taking action is understandable. But guilt has not been established at all. They sent us show cause notices and we have replied to them. As of now, nothing has been proved,” said Shaik Bavajan, research scholar.

On the other hand, an MPhil candidate Mohammad Hammadur Rahman’s admission is withheld for his alleged role in the protest.

Asked about this, MANUU proctor Prof Mohammed Abdul Azeem said that the student’s admission is withheld and has not been cancelled. He further added that probe is going on in the matter which will take a month.

“Our inquiry is going to be based on the evidence we have. A committee to probe the matter has been constituted. Everything will be done in a fair and impartial manner,” Prof Azeem said.
