Srilakshmi released from jail

Months of turbulence has ended, albeit temporarily, for suspended IAS officer Srilakshmi. She was set free from the Chanchalaguda jail this evening. The jail officials released Srilakshmi from the prison after receiving the bail sanction order of the High Court.

The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Monday granted Srilakshmi interim bail, till January 20. The suspended IAS officer was arrested in November last year in the Obulapuram mining case and was lodged in the Chanchalguda jail. Though she got bail after spending a few hours in the prison, later she surrendered before the High Court, in December last, and since then she was confined to the prison walls.

Last month she underwent treatment in the prison ward of the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Science (NIMS) in Hyderabad for slip disc problem. As she is understood to have advised to be constant medical observation and prolonged treatment for the ailment, the court on Monday granted her bail.

However, it was already late on Monday when the court pronounced its order and the jail authorities could not receive a copy of the verdict within the stipulated hours on Monday. And hence, she is released on Tuesday after completing all the formalities as per the jail manual, sources said.
