More than 15,000 doctors in over 900 hospitals went for a strike

Colombo: Medical services came to a standstill and thousands suffered in Sri Lanka, as doctors went on strike on Wednesday against certain proposals in the country's budget for next year.

The strike was not reported in maternity and children’s hospitals and the Maharagama Cancer Hospital here

The strike started on Wednesday, will end after 24 hours. The Health Ministry reported that they were informed about the strike in “last moment”.

More than 15,000 doctors in over 900 hospitals went for a strike, said the Government Medical Officers Association.

However, the strike was not reported in maternity and children's hospitals and the Maharagama Cancer Hospital here.
