The House was adjourned to Monday.

New Delhi:  Continuing the fight for ‘Special Category Status’ for the residual Andhra Pradesh state, the MPs of the YSR Congress Party staged a demonstration in front of Gandhi statue on the premises of Parliament before the session started in Rajya Sabha on Friday.

After Speaker Sumitra Mahajan started the session and announced the Question hour, the YSRCP MPs raised slogans. Amid the din in the house, Speaker continued the question hour. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar, intervened and tried to appease the sloganeering YSRCP. He appealed to them to resume their seats saying the Centre was keen and would fulfil all the promises made at the time of bifurcation. He added that the Centre was in talks with AP Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu.

However, YSRCP members did not give up the sloganeering. Mekapati Rajamohan reddy, YS Avinash Reddy, Mithun Reddy, Varaprasad and Butta Renuka were among the MPs who attended the Friday’s Rajya Sabha session.

After question hour, Speaker Sumitra Mahajan adjourned the House for Monday as the agitation continued.
