Soon, Your Mobile Number Will Have 13 Digits!
New Delhi: The Department of Telecommunications has taken a decision to implement 13 digit numbering scheme for mobile to mobile (M2M) communication. A high-level meeting in this regard was convened this month here at which it was decided that this decision will roll out from July 1. From this date all new M2M connections will be allocated 13 digit number only.
With the number of mobile users across all the sections growing by the day, there is a lot of confusion relating to numbering the SIMs. Foreseeing this problem, the Department of Telecommunications has decided to introduce 13 digit numbering system for mobiles.
On February 8, at a meeting, the department decided to put in place the proposed 13-digit numbering scheme for M2M communication. All the Telecom Service Providers have been asked to ensure that their networks including IT and other relevant systems are aligned with the 13 digit system for SIMs before the deadline.
Importantly migration of existing 10 digit M2M numbers to 13 digits will start from October 1 and must be completed by December 31 this year, the order advised all service providers.
