Vijayawada: Hitting back at senior BJP leader Somu Veerraju for his remarks, TDP MLA Bonda Umamaheshwara Rao on Saturday said that Bharatiya Janata Party cannot fight a lone battle in Andhra Pradesh. The BJP cannot face polls if it does not have any political alliances, he said.

"Somu Veerraju can't even win a Councillor’s seat if he contests in Rajahmundry," Bonda Uma commented. Speaking to media persons in Vijayawada, the TDP MLA recalled that Somu Veerraju had secured just 7,000 votes of a total 15 lakh votes when he contested the seat in 2009 elections.

Although the Central government had clearly announced that the special package would be on the lines of Bundelkhand and Kalahandi, it had been silent over the assurances, he said. "The Central government allocated Rs 1,050 crore from the announced package of Rs 24,000 crore. When the Andhra Pradesh government has allocated land worth Rs 50,000 crore to farmers in Amaravati, the Centre has just released Rs 15,000 crore. "How is it possible to construct the capital city with such meagre funds?" he questioned. It may be recalled that Somu Veerraju claimed that the BJP-led NDA government has so far released Rs 16,000 crore for the construction of AP Capital city.
