Sister Commits Suicide Over Drunk Brothers’ Harassment

15-year-old Saba Begum hanged herself in the house, while parents and other brothers were sleeping as they were heavily drunk.

Hyderabad: 15-year-old Saba Begum allegedly committed suicide at her house in BK Guda on Wednesday afternoon as she was fed up with the continuous harassment of her brothers for money. Now, her younger sister Sara Begum, 12, doesn’t want to stay with her brothers.

Sara also fears that her brothers will trouble her too for money. According to neighbors, Saba committed suicide in the house, while parents and other brothers were sleeping as they were heavily drunk. Saba hanged herself in the room.

Her sister found her hanging and raised an alarm. Neighbors rushed inside the house and found her entire family in drunken state and Saba was gasping for breath.

Saba used to earn doing odd jobs near her house. Her father Mohammed Yousuf Miya, his wife and sons Azam, Mukram and Kareem, all work for daily wages while Sara goes to school. Yousuf Miya’s elder daughter got married in 2015. Barring the two girls, entire family has been addicted to alcohol.

They brought her down and tried to wake up her parents up, but no one woke up as they were all drunk. Later Saba was shifted to Osmania General Hospital, where she died. The police registered a case of suspicious death. The three brothers of Saba Begum are alcohol-addicts and kept forcing Saba for money.

Saba was drop out from school when she was studying Class III and started supported the family. Parents also don’t control their two sons, whenever they beat their sisters for money. On Wednesday afternoon, Saba came home from work with her salary of around Rs 1,600. One of her brothers asked her for money. She refused and he beat her up severely. Now, Sara says that she’ll be forced to work to earn for the family. Sara says: I don’t want to stay with my family and I want to study.”
