The man behind the victory of PV SIndhu at Rio Olympics: Gopichand with his disciple.

Rio De Janeiro: Pusarla Venkata Sindhu, the ace badminton player from Telangana, who has become the toast of the country and who made the entire subcontinent erupt in joy by clinching silver medal in the Rio Olympics 2016 on Friday in Brazi, stayed away from cellphone and her favourite desserts for three months in the run up to her Olympic quest.

While everyone is praising the Hyderabadi shuttler for her fighting spirit in Rio, little is known about the great sacrifices she made to achieve this glorious victory. Sindhu and her parents credited her victory to the mentoring by her coach and former badminton champion Pullela Gopichand.

Sindhu underwent some crucial training sessions prior to the Rio Olympics.

He said: “she stuck to the restrictions and rules what I had imposed on her. She followed a strict diet. She was restricted to avoid even her favourite sweet curd for two weeks in order to maintain fitness. She also stayed away form using mobile phone for three months before the Olympics began.

Gopichand said, “I restricted her from eating her favourite dessert sweet curd for last two weeks to keep her fit and also took her mobile phone away from her three months back. Giving back her mobile phone is my first duty now.”
