Sick passenger forces landing of AI flight

AI flight makes unscheduled landing for sick passenger A Delhi-bound Air India flight (AI-430) from Chennai on Sunday made an unscheduled landing at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) at Shamshabad here after a passenger complained of health problems, an airline official said.

However, the passenger later died during treatment at a hospital near the airport, where he was rushed to, the official added. Tuteja Jaspal, aged around 50 years, complained of uneasiness after which the on-board doctor attended to him and gave primary treatment. The cabin crew informed about it to the captain of the flight, who decided to land the plane at 11.56 am, a spokesperson of the national carrier said. In order to save the passenger's life, the plane made an unscheduled landing at the airport. He was immediately shifted to a corporate hospital near the airport after the fight landed.
Medical assistance was provided to him, however, he succumbed while undergoing treatment at the hospital, the official said. Jaspal, who hailed from Raipur, was on a business trip.
The family of the deceased has been informed about the incident and his body will be flown to Raipur by a private airliner, the official added.
