Capital issue: Shut down in Rayalaseema

Even as AP Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu is making an announcement about the capital being set up around Vijayawada, Rayalaseema observed a shutdown.

Under the aegis of Rayalaseema Sadhana Samithi, protests, rallies and dharnas were organised in all the four districts. Various student organisations from Rayalaseema also organised a YSR Kadapa district bandh on Thursday.

At most places, the protest began well before the break of the dawn. At Kadapa's Ambedkar circle, the protestors set tyres on fire. They also prevented the buses from coming out of the depots. Several shops and business establishments observed bandh voluntarily.

The protesters demand that the capital of the state be located in Rayalaseema as agreed during the Sribagh Accord.
