Shooter of Congress Leader Arrested

Hyderabad: Dakkuri Babu, who shot at Congress leader, ex-corporator D Yadagiri near the latter’s residence in Old Bowenpally in Secunderabad using a country-made pistol last week was arrested by Hyderabad North Zone police on Tuesday.

Over a land dispute, the bike-born Dakkuri Babu along with his accomplice, opened fire at Yadagiri while he was entering his house in Old Bowenpally on Saturday morning after an altercation erupted. Out of six rounds of firing, one bullet injured Yadagiri. The shootout was continued by Dakkuri Babu chasing him even the injured Yadagiri tried to escape and entered into a nearby hospital.

Police had collected the CCTV footage from the surrounding buildings in which the incident was recorded and arrested Dakkuri Babu along with his aide Suman after inspecting the footage. Police said there were another reasons behind the attempt to kill the Congress leader besides the alleged land dispute of a site in Alwal.

Meanwhile, Yadagiri gave an interview to a local TV channel saying that if he wanted to kill Yadagiri, he would have killed him. “I fired only to threaten him in order to get the money he owes me, but not to kill him”, he said.

Cops suspect that Yadagiri had given the interview just to divert the police from focusing his another ‘mission’ to carryout in a neighbouring state. They are also suspecting that one more person is also involved in the case.

“He was planning to travel to a neighbouring state to carry out a suspicious activity. More of his plans will be revealed after we grill him thoroughly”, said a police official, adding, the prime accused had multiple arrest warrants in various police stations including a rowdysheet opened at Alwal police station for his involvement in two murder cases and several property offenses.
