Shobha Nagi Reddy dies in road accident

YSR Congress Party deputy floor leader Shobha Nagi Reddy, 46, succumbed to her injuries at 11:05, Thursday morning at Care Hospital. Her funeral will be held on Friday at Allagadda.

The leader sustained serious head and rib injuries after her car, in a bid to escape driving into a heap of paddy kept in the middle of the road, stopped suddenly and overturned four times. Shobha was thrown out of the car because of the pressure.  The impact of the accident was so high that it rendered the car completely damaged.

She was returning home, late Wednesday night, after completion of her campaigning.

She suffered severe injuries on her head and rib. The YSRCP Allgadda candidate was rushed to Suraksha Hospital of Nandyal. She was then shifted to Care Hospital in Hyderabad.

She was about to reach the home in about an half an hour. She actively participated along with Sharmila in election campaign in Kurnool on Wednesday night.  She told Sharmila that she will come back on Thursday and left.

Car driver Nagendra, gunmen Srinivas and Bhasa also suffered serious injuries.

The leader had pledged her eyes earlier.  Her family members will be taking her body to Kurnool for her last rites.

YSRCP honorary president, YS Vijayamma has arrived at Care Hospital to pay final respects to Shobha.

Born to former minister SV Subba Reddy on November 16, 1968 in Allagadda, Shobha's entry and consequent rise in politics was pre-destined.

She entered politics in 1996, and went on to carve a niche for herself in politics. The very next year she won the by election, contesting on TDP ticket. She again won general election as MLA from TDP.

In 1986, she tied the knot with politician Bhuma Nagi Reddy.

When actor Chiranjeevi launched Praja Rajyam Party, Shoba joined the party and, in a clear testimony of her popularity, went on to win with 61,555 votes against Congress candidate Gangula Pratap Reddy.

Incidentally, she is the first woman Chairman to head APSRTC.
