It was sea of humanity at Ichapuram as the woman from YSR family reached the end of her 230-day arduous padayatra.
YSRCP honorary president, YS Vijayamma accompanied Sharmila apart from other party leaders.
Sharmila unveiled the statue of her father and late Chief Minister, Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy to mark the occasion. The locals of Ichapuram were thrilled to relive the moments of YSR era as it was here that the late chief minister's 'Praja Prastanam' was concluded. Now, to see his daughter Sharmila too do the same on a much grander scale was a moment of pride for the supporters of the YSR family.
Over 80-foot-high Vijaya Prasthanam Pylon was erected to mark the conclusion of the 228-day padayatra which has set a record of sorts in history.
It's worth mentioning here that no other women in politics has undertaken such a mission. Also, for another woman to surpass Sharmila's record would be unimaginary. Her foot march was a crusade to fulfil the dreams of her brother Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy and continue the legacy of her father Late YSR.
It's a fact that for a woman to walk thousands of miles is a record. However, Sharmila never set off on her foot march with any such intention. Initially it was Jagan who was to undertake the padayatra. However, in lieu of his unavailability, Sharmila took it upon herself to honour her brother's words.
No matter the weather—scorching sun or incessant rains, Sharmila has braved them so as to accomplish her mission. Sharmila walked for 11 kms to reach the venue of her conclusion meeting.
YS Jagan's supporters from across the state gathered in large numbers to be a part of celebrations that will be remembered in Andhra Pradesh history.
'Jai Jagan', 'Jai YSR slogans' filled the air making it almost inaudible to hear the speech of leaders on dais. Shramila started her padayatra at Idupulapaya in YSR district on October 18. She has walked for over 3,112 kms in 230 days spanning 116 constituencies.
She toured 14 districts - YSR, Anantapur, Kurnool, Mahbubnagar, Rangareddy, Nalgonda, Khammam, East Godavari, West Godavari, Vizianganaram and others.
Her padayatra not just rekindled the hopes of YSR supporters but also strengthened the party.
Sharmila has lent her ear to thousands of problems faced by the people, she has also received scores of complaint letters. Sharmila promised the cheeerful crowd that Jagan will soon come out of jail to change the state which is in dire state.
