Sharmila breaks Naidu's padayatra record

It's a big day for YSR Congress Party leader Sharmila who's on her 'Maro Praja Prasthanam' padayatra. The daughter from the YSR family who has many firsts to her credit is all set to add another feather to her cap. The YSRCP leader erased record set by TDP chief Chandrabau Naidu during his foot march.

It may be recalled that during his Vastunna Meekosam padayatra, which lasted 208 days Chandrababu had covered 2817 kms. Today, Sharmila crossed that mark breaking another record and adding another first to her long list of accomplishments during her padayatra. (Also Read)

Sharmila began her padayatra from Idupulapaya, the heart of Rayalaseema region in YSR district on October 18, 2012. Sharmila has so far walked 2,819 kms spread across 1,784 villages. Naidu covered 2,817 kms in 208 days. Sharmila erased his record in 211 days. Sharmila covered 2,819 kms in 13 districts while Chandrababu walked the same distance in 16 districts. Sharmila has so far covered 184 mandals. She has conducted as many as 194 racchabandas.

Earlier, Sharmila's padayatra broke her father's record thus proving she has all the qualities of Dr YSR. Now, by beating Naidu's record, she has become an intriguing personality for all her political detractors in the state. Within a short time, Sharmila's achievements outnumbers those of her political opponents. Along her way, as she crossed villages, mandals, districts... Sharmila has lent her ear to thousands of problems faced by the people, she has also received scores of complaint letters. The YSRCP leader also empathised with them offering them solutions at times.

It's a fact that for a woman to walk thousands of miles is a record. However, the YSRCP leader never set off on her foot march with any such intention. Contrary to what a few people think, Sharmila decided to brave the harsh weather and do with minimum facilities only to get close to the people and hear from them first hand account of their battles in day-to-day life. As she rightly told the people in her opening statements, she's Jagan's arrow. A person who chose to mingle with the masses, to match steps with them, to fight the injustice meted out to them by the government. She had just one mission—to highlight government's anti-people policies.

Sharmila, a woman who was known as a homemaker became a household name in a matter of few months. While it's time to celebrate for YSRC party members, gloom sets over TDP. The million dollar question is if anyone can beat the record set by the young icon?
