Shaheen Afridi wins hearts with his sign of respect

Dubai: Pakistan’s fast bowling sensation Shaheen Shah Afridi has won many hearts when he recently chose not to celebrate after bowling Karachi Kings player Shahid Afridi out as a sign of respect towards the former Pakistan captain. The legendary batsman hit Shaheen for a six off the first ball of the final over, before getting bowled out the next ball.

The rookie fast bowler later took to Twitter to explain his gesture. "There is only one Shahid Afridi in the cricket arena. And this is the least you can do to honor the Man for his services to cricket, Pakistan, and humanity," read his tweet. Naturally, Shaheen was going to celebrate the wicket in style, but then he remembered it was the legendary batsman Shahid Afridi so he toned down his emotions and just smiled to show his respect to the Boom Boom batsman.

Following the gesture, the Lahore Qalandars fast bowler has won the respect of many cricket fans. Given that Shaheen is only 17 years old; his action won wide appreciation. One tweet read—“this is pure respect to shahid afridi by shaheeen shah afridi what a superstar shaheen wanted to celebrate but didnt and paid him respect, love you star.”

This is how cricket fans responded on Twitter:

The Pakistan Super League (PSL) match ended in a sensational super over. The McCullum-led Lahore Qalandars leveled the score on the last delivery of the innings, taking the match into the tournament's second super over. The Qalandars eventually defeated the Kings at the end of it.

Playing first in the super over, the Qalandars gave Kings a target of 12 runs to win. Fakhar Zaman was run out on the very first ball. Anton Devcich, who came in to bat along with skipper McCullum, took the super over score to 11 runs.

Lendl Simmons and Colin Ingram opened for Kings in the chase for 12 runs. Sunil Narine took the prized wicket of Ingram on the third delivery of his over. Shahid Afridi hit the last ball of the over for six, but things were already too late for Karachi to pull things back.
