Supreme court leaves cock-fight organizers and politicians confused by saying that cock-fights are acceptable but the status quo will continue.

There is a lot of confusion about the nature of the relief, while the pro-fight parties argue that the verdict has lifted the ban on holding cock-fight, the West Godavari district administration has said the court ordered that status quo ante be maintained and this only meant the continuation of the ban.

Why are Cock-fights opposed??
cock-fights are events where two roosters are placed in a small fighting ring and are incited to fight each other. The roosters used to fight may be specially bred, trained to fight or given steroids in order to make them more aggressive in a fight. Usually, blades or small iron hooks, are attached to the feet of these roosters to increase the damage inflicted on the other bird participating in the fight. The animal lovers and PETA wanted to ban such games where in cocks are killed in many numbers.

Where are these held mostly??
Claiming to be part of festival fun, cockfights are organized in A.P. and Tamil Nadu. The cockfights are mostly organized in open grounds in villages in East Godavari, West Godavari and Krishna districts. Powerful politicians of all hues, celebrities and businessmen, who consider the cockfights a part of culture of coastal Andhra organize them.

When where they banned??
High Court of A.P. banned cockfights in 2014. But even after the official ban, cockfights continues to thrive with people's representatives at district and village levels themselves organizing it in many villages.

What is gained in these games??
Crores of rupees change hands as betting on roosters are on in full swing. Many people lose Lakhs while many earn. Police try to curb the betting but all in vain. Politicians, business man, village head and almost everyone are part of these festival game while thousands come to watch to support their favorite rooster
