Satyavathi Venna's body taken to native village for last rites

The body of an elderly woman from Andhra Pradesh, who was killed along with her 10-month-old granddaughter Saanvi Venna in the United States, was flown back here for last rites.

Satyavathi Venna's body was brought to Hyderabad last night and taken to her ancestral village Kudumulakunta in Hanumanthuipadu mandal of Prakasam district, where final rites will be conducted this evening, one of her relatives said today. A 26-year-old software engineer from AP, Raghunandan Yandamuri alias Raghu was arrested on charges of kidnapping and killing Saanvi and her 61-year-old grandmother Satyavathi, who was found dead at an apartment complex on October 22.

Meanwhile, Raghu's mother Padmavathi sought punishment for her son in case he had done anything wrong. "I did not believe initially, but it was only after the media reported the matter that I came to know this. Such a thing (killing of baby Saanvi and her grandmother) should not have happened. In case he (Raghu) has done wrong, punish him," Pamavathi told and also said she wanted to talk to Raghu once. I still don't know why he (Raghu) resorted to this act. I extend my condolences to Venna's family, she added.

Raghu was a neighbour of the girl's father Venkata Konda Siva Venna and her mother Chenchu Latha Punuru. Satyavathi had arrived from India to the US for a visit in July and was scheduled to return home in January. She used to babysit the child.
