Sarpanch posts: No nominations from 30 villages

No nominations was filed for posts of sarpanchs in 30 village panchayats and only a single nomination was received in 39 villages in Guntur district where nominations concluded yesterday, a press note issued by the district public relations office said.

Villages where no nominations was filed included the world renouned Buddhist centre Amaravathi, the big fishing harbour village Nizampatnam, besides Rentachinthala, the hottest place in Andhra Pradesh. It remains to be seen how the Andhra Pradesh State Election Commission reacts to a single nominatiion in view of the spree to auction off sarpanch posts. The state government offers cash awards ranging from Rs 5 lakhs to 10 lakhs to village panchayats where elections are unanimous.
