Hyderabad: Crime against women in the City has dipped by 12 percent but surprisingly the rape cases have gone up to 30 percent. In 2015, as many as 115 rape cases were registered, while the number went up to 161 this year.
Hyderabad Police Commissioner M. Mahender Reddy on Wednesday presented the details of crimes in the city. Ironically, even with the increase of SHE teams, rape cases have risen. Reddy said that in most of the rape cases, the accused were known to the victims.
“81 cases were in love affairs and marriages, 13 were committed by relatives of the victim, 41 by neighbours,16 by friends, seven were cases of incest and three cases where the offenders were unknown to the victims,” said Reddy
Meanwhile, 327 cases were registered in outraging women's modesty as 329 in 2015. Interestingly, cyber crimes have reduced by 24 percent this year. Reddy further said that case related to drugs increased over 100 per cent with 55 cases in 2016 compared to just 26 last year.
