Shivananda Reddy worked as ASP in Nalgonda and retired as Superintendent of Police (SP) seven years ago.

Hyderabad: Shivananda Reddy, who worked as ASP in Nalgonda for some time and retired as Superintendent of Police (SP), has clarified that he never heard of Nayeem’s name, while adding that he never received calls from TDP leaders regarding transactions with the Naxalite-turned gangster.

Responding to a news report on TV channels involving his name in Nayeem cases, Shivananda Reddy spoke to the media here on Wednesday. Reddy said only one channel reportedly mentioned his name, for which he attributed the reason of his service in Nalgonda district.

Shivananda Reddy said: “I retired seven years ago. I worked as ASP in Nalgonda till 2003, but for very short span and that too in administration. So I was not involved in law and order and operations against extremists. I was not even aware of the informer system. I don’t even believe the news that 99 percent of SIs and CIs worked in Nalgonda had links with Nayeem during that period. Like any other field, there may be one or two black sheep in the police department. But, it’s not good to spread allegations on whoever worked in Nalgonda.”

Reddy further said that he never received calls from TDP leaders regarding Nayeem. Moreover, in those days there was no necessity for district SPs to listen to politicians.

“I worked with senior officials like Sajjanar and Shivadhar Reddy. They’re honest people and earned good name in the State. My father was a Congress leader, but I never shown any interest in politics. My family’s political activity was also confined to our Nandikotkur village,” adds Reddy.
