Relatives Crush Dead Body Of Man By Car To Claim Insurance 

Tenali: A dead man's body was crushed by a car by his family to project the death was due to an accident for claiming insurance amount on Pedaravuru-Chinaparimi Donka road on Wednesday.

56-year-old Ramavath Katna Nayak died of ill health on Wednesday morning. Instead of mourning and performing funeral for the body, his family hatched a plan to make the death look like an accident as the deceased subscribed to an insurance policy for Rs10 lakh last month. Two of his sons-in-law, his wife and another relative brought the body in an auto and a car followed them. After reaching an isolated spot, they threw the body on the road and crushed it by the car. Then they left body and fled the spot.

On getting informed by the local farmers, police arrived at the spot but they smelled something fishy. Though the body bore injuries, there was no pool of blood as expected in an accident of such proportion. The police picked up the relatives of the deceased and after questioning them, dug out the facts. They concluded that the accidental death was a drama enacted by the deceased's family only to claim his insurance amount of Rs10 lakh.

The body was sent for a post-mortem at Tenali government hospital and cases will be booked on the wife and relatives of the deceased Katna Nayak based on the report, the police said.
