Chittoor: Three passengers died and 30 others were injured when the bus (KA01 AF 4433) they were travelling-in overturned near Lanco factory at Srikalahasti of Chittoor district, in the wee hours of Monday.

Rash driving and dozing off by the driver are being attributed for the mishap.

The bus belonging to a private travel agency, Vinayaka Travels, was on its way from Vijayawada to Bengaluru when the mishap occurred. According to the survivors, the bus had only one driver and there was no second driver which is usually the case for buses on overnight journey. They claimed that the driver was over speeding and did not heed to their pleas to slow down. He must have dozed off later, they alleged. “He said he had to reach Bengaluru on time as it was a private travel company and cannot afford to be late,” they claimed.

The deceased have been identified as Mohan (45), Srinivasulu (43) and an unidentified woman. All the deceased are residents of Kavali, police said. The injured were shifted to Ruia Hospital in Tirupati.
