Rally to spread awareness of ecological seminar held

A rally to spread awareness about a biodiversity conference scheduled next month was held today here. The city is hosting the International Bio-diversity Conference (CoP-11) from October 1 to 19 where 193 countries and nearly 10,000 delegates from across the world will participate, the greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) commissioner M T Krishna Babu said.

The GHMC and the Andhra Pradesh Environment Department are jointly organising the event. Delegates from more than 193 countries will descend on Hyderabad to debate and discuss on importance to protect fast-extincting plant and animal species. Out of 18-lakh plant and animal species, only a few lakh have remained, while all others have become extinct. The prime focus of the CoP-11 is to provide greener environment for the future generations, Babu said. Special Chief Secretary (Environment and Forest) M Samuel said Rs 450 crore would be spent by the state government to host the event.
