Rains to continue in AP

Heavy rains lashed the State in the past 24 hours and the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad experienced torrential downpour. Several low-lying areas in the city and suburbs were waterlogged, slowing down vehicular movement and causing massive traffic snarls on both the national highways and other major roads in the city.

Heavy rains lashed coastal Andhra Pradesh today inundating low-lying residential areas and affecting standing crops. Machilipatnam in Krishna district received 17 cm of rainfall, followed by Rajahmundry in East Godavari district-16 cms, Ongole in Prakasam district-14 and Eluru in West Godavari, Avanigadda in Krishna and Yerragondapalem and Darsi in Prakasam district received 13 cms each. A number of other places in East and West Godavari, Krishna, Guntur and Prakasam districts also received heavy rainfall, Meteorological Department sources said.

Heavy rains inundated low-lying areas in the districts. The rain water entered the district government hospital at Eluru, which affected medical services. Rains also damaged standing paddy crop in the coastal districts, which was ready for harvesting. The southwest monsoon has been vigorous over coastal Andhra Pradesh and active over Telangana regions. The well-marked low pressure area lies over West Central Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Met officials said. Moderate to rather heavy rain or thundershowers would occur at many places over Coastal Andhra, Telangana and Rayalaseema, regions, the Met officials added.
