Anantapur: The railway police high-handedness was in full view, late on Wednesday night, on the Bengaluru-Kachiguda train when they mercilessly thrashed a passenger.

The incident took place, when the Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel noticed a man, Suresh, entering the reserved compartments of the train with a general ticket.

Passengers of the train recorded the incident on their mobile phones and the clipping has gone viral on the social media. The video clearly establishes the brutality of the police in dealing with a situation as they paid scant attention when Suresh tried to reason with the RPF personnel. Later, speaking on camera, Suresh said that he did not commit any mistake and that he was beaten up without any reason. Passengers of the Bengaluru-Kachiguda train, too, condemned the action of the railway police.

On February 2, 2018, a police sub-inspector Chandrasekhar was arrested for misbehaving with the wife of an Air Force officer, on the Coimbatore-bound Nilgiris Express. She was allotted a middle berth. Following her request, Chandrasekar, a special sub-inspector attached to the CB-CID police, Udhagamandalam, offered his berth. However as the train left Salem station, the policeman under the influence of alcohol, allegedly attempted to misbehave with her. At Erode station, the IAF officer and his wife lodged a compalint with the railway police and Chandrasekhar was arrested.

The Railway police have introduced a WhatsApp number “9480802140” to help passengers lodge complaints of theft, harassment or other issues. The message should include brief details of the incident, train and coach number. . The Railway police have also set up a 24x7 toll free telephone number (18004241363) to help passengers to complain about criminal activities or get information.

Additionally, the railways also encourages passengers to tweet their complaints to their regional railway headquarters with the train name, coach number and other particulars in order to take swift action against mischief-makers.
