Rail-school bus crash leaves 16 kids dead in Medak

* Bodies mangled beyond recognition

Hyderabad: In ghastly incident, as many as 16, including 14 school children and a driver, were crushed to death when a school bus carrying teachers and students rammed into Nanded - Hyderabad Passenger at an unmanned level crossing Masaipet Village , Yeldurthy Mandal of Medak District early on Thursday. The train dragged the bus for well over a kilo metre.

The school bus belonged to Kakatiya Techno School and was carrying students from three neighbouring villages.

While 12 children died on the spot, the remaining commuters died on way to Hyderabad. Critically injured people are being rushed to Yashoda hospital and the railway hospital at Lallaguda in Hyderabad.

Locals and the police personnel rushed to the spot and are trying to rescue the bodies, which are mangled beyond recognition. Ambulances and medical help is yet to arrive.

The toll could rise as many of the injured are in a critical condition.
