Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi, who turned 45 on Friday, celebrated his birthday in India for the first time in more than a decade. This departure from the usual practice seems to be part of Congress’ strategy to project the Gandhi scion as a leader to reckon with.
Meanwhile Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted the NehruGandhi dynasty’s heir apparent. Modi tweeted `` Wishing the Congress Vice President, Shri Rahul Gandhi a Happy Birthday. I pray for his good health & long life. @OfficeOfRG’’. This is the first time the prime minister has extended such greetings.
Gandhi returned the gesture and thanked Modi for his greetings.
Modi's greeting comes at a time when Gandhi has been taking repeated potshots on Modi since returning from his a two-month "unexplained" sabbatical.
Elsewhere Gandhi scion seems to be finally gaining some foothold on social media especially twitter where the #HappyBirthdayRG'' is trending from the morning.
