Quota for panchayat polls finalised

The State Government on Monday finalized the reservations for 21,590 panchayats and forwarded them to the State Election Commission to start the election process.
Women- 10795 panchayats
Scheduled Castes- 3,958 panchayats
Scheduled Tribes- 1279 panchayats
Backward Castes- 6926 panchayats
The reservation would apply to all elected positions in gram panchayats, Mandal Praja Parishads and Zilla Praja Parishads.
The notification for panachayats is likely to be released in two days. Elections will be conducted in three phases.EC would stop elections for the panchayats where cases are pending in the courts.
