Protests rock Seemandhra for 13 th day

Agitating against the decision to bifurcate the state, Samaikyandhra supporters on Monday continued with their week-long protest across coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions.

Protesters belonging to different organisations supporting united Andhra Pradesh took out huge rallies and resorted to road blockades at several places as the protests entered the thirteenth day today.

Shops, business establishments and educational institutions remained closed while buses of state owned Andhra Pradesh State Transport Corporation (APSRTC) were off the roads in major towns of Seemandhra (Rayalaseema and Andhra).

Students, government employees, workers, lawyers, political activists and people from other walks of life took out rallies, formed human chains and staged road blockades to demand the UPA government to withdraw its decision to bifurcate Andhra Pradesh.

The agitators are taking out rallies, forming human chains, staging road and rail blockades and burning effigies of Congress president Sonia Gandhi and other leaders. 

In Kurnool and Nellore districts, the protesters cooked food on roads besides taking out massive rallies and blocking roads.

Similar protests were also continuing in Srikakulam, Visakhapatnam, Krishna, Guntur, East and West Godavari districts.

In Rayachoti, Rajampet, Produttoor towns of Kadapa district, the protesters, including hundreds of women, took out rallies in support of their demands, besides cooking food on roads.
