Protests in Kerala intensify as Oommen refuses to resign

Thiruvananthapuram: Opposition parties in Kerala intensified their protests on Friday, demanding Oommen Chandy’s resignation as Kerala Chief Minister for his alleged role in solar scam even as the latter moved Kerala High Court against the Vigilance court’s order to file an FIR against him.

Situation outside the Kerala Secretariat was tensed as DYFI and CPI (M) activists clashed with the police. The police had to resort to caning after the mob started pelting stones at the police. Tear gas was also used in order to bring the situation under control.

Ever since the Vigilance court ordered an FIR to be filed against the CM, the left parties have been up in arms demanding Chandy’s resignation. Even after the Kerala High Court confirmed that there was no case filed against Chandy, the opposition parties are in no mood to relent.
