Pressures on CBI from Govt are common, says ex-CBI director

Former CBI director and TDP leader Vijayarama Rao on Tuesday said it was common in some occasions to have pressures to CBI from the Government.

It was not possible in practical to work independently for CBI director without maintaining touches with the leaders in the government.

Vijayarama Rao, however, found fault with the CBI officials showing reports on coalgate to Union Law minister. He said he would not encounter such experiences in his career as CBI director. Recalling such an experience, Vijayarama Rao, however said there were many pressures during the case against Sanjay Dutt. Despite all, we had filed a charge-sheet, he said addressing a seminar on “CBI, crime investigating agencies – self-regulation & possibilities” organised by Janavignana Vedika and APPA on Tuesday.

Former secretary of Union Home Ministry Padmanabhaiah maintained that CBI should be bifurcated and anti-corruption wing should be made as self-regulated. He took strong exception over continuing of six ministers in the State Cabinet even after they were figured in the charge-sheet. The agency was not even given permission for prosecution, he wondered.
