APSRTC staff in Samaikyandra agitation; Rs 200 cr loss to RTC

Protests against the move to bifurcate Andhra Pradesh continued for the 24th consecutive day on Friday in Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions of the state with massive rallies and demonstrations.

More than four lakh employees including RTC workers in 13 districts are on strike demanding that Centre immediately withdraw its move to divide the state.

The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation is suffering losses to the tune of Rs 13 cores on a daily basis because of its striking employees.

This was announced by APSRTC vice-chairman and managing director A.K. Khan on Friday. He also said that so far APSRTC has lost Rs 200 cores because of the Samaikyandhra agitation.

The survival of the RTC would be difficult if the agitation continues, he said while admitting that the government-run transport body is in deep trouble.
He appealed to the RTC workers to call off their strike taking into consideration the public inconvenience and loss to the RTC.

What if RTC suffered loss?

Ultimately, the government will increase the bus fares citing losses. And the obvious scapegoats to bear the brunt would be the commuters.
