Pravallika’s deteriorated after she was administered fungus-infected saline at Gandhi Hospital and she finally succumbed on Tuesday.

Hyderabad: The 7-year-old Sai Pravallika who was given fungus-infected saline at Gandhi Hospital died on Tuesday after battling for life for 62 days. The condition of the girl who was admitted with high fever at the State-run hospital deteriorated after the fungus-infected saline was administered to her and she finally succumbed in the early hours today.

However, girl's father Bikshapati alleged that it was the sheer negligence of the doctors and the hospital staff that killed his daughter. Generally, a post-mortem is conducted in cases of suspicious death to ascertain the cause, but the parents were forced to leave the hospital with the body immediately after she was declared dead at 3.45am.

They were sent in an ambulance to their village Maidam Cheruvu in Janagam district before sunrise.

Talking to Sakshi over the phone, Bikshapati said he ran from pillar to post to save his child but the superintendent resented him saying what is big deal if a girl dies? "Even the Minister Dr. C. Lakshma Reddy threatened me for exposing the negligence of the hospital," he said.

Meanwhile, Gandhi superintendent Dr Venkateshwar Reddy clarified that Pravallika was suffering from a rare disease that comes to one in a lakh and it was not curable. Post-mortem was not conducted on her body only on a request made by parents who signed their consent for the release of the body without post-mortem, he said.

He also said action will be taken against those responsible for administering the fungus-infected saline. A report on the incident is awaited, he added.
