Amaravati: In a significant leap, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, in his first cabinet meeting on Monday, approved the decision to increase the salaries of Tribal Area Community Health workers from Rs 400 to Rs 4,000 per month. The move will benefit 700 community health workers in the state.

The salaries of ASHA health workers have also been increased fom Rs 3,000 to Rs 10,000. The giant leap in terms of monthly honorarium places the ASHA of Andhra Pradesh well above their peer group in Telangana who draw Rs 6,000 a month and by those in Kerala who earn a monthly honorarium of Rs 7,500. The decision will impact about 3,500 ASHA workers in the state.

The old age pensions have also been hiked from Rs 2,000 to Rs Rs 2,250 per month. Not just that, the AP CM also increased the salary of municipal and sanitation workers by a whopping Rs 18,000 on what they are currently drawing.

Meanwhile, from July onwards, state government employees will be receiving 27 per cent Interim relief as part of the government's poll promises and has also agreed to the constitution of a committee that will look into cancellation of the contributory pension scheme (CPS).

The government held its first meeting yesterday after inducting 25 ministers and five deputy CMs. The meeting lasted for six hours according to media reports.

All newly inducted ministers including Home Minister G Sucharita, Finance Minister Buggana Rajendranath Reddy, Pilli Subhash Chandrabose, Peddireddi Ramchandra Reddy were present along with state Chief Secretary LV Subramanyam and other officials.
