Hyderabad: Narasannapeta MLA-elect Dharmana Krishna Das has been rewarded with a ministerial berth in the YS Jaganmohan Reddy's cabinet on Saturday. Speculations were rife that who between the Dharmana brothers would have gotten the berth and the name of Krishna Das being confirmed.
Krishna Das joined politics in 2003 after quitting his job in Vizag and was elected as an MLA from Narasannapeta in 2004 and 2009 elections on Congress ticket. He lost the election in 2014 after contesting on YSRCP ticket. He was also one of the leaders who fought the by-elections after YS jagan floated the YSRCP.
After the death of former Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy, Krishna Das resigned from both the Congress and State Assembly and joined the Congress. He contested the by-elections and became the first MLA in the district to get elected on the YSRC ticket in the 2012 by-election.
After bifurcation, Krishna Das took the initiative to bring his brother Prasada Rao into YSRCP in a view to strengthen the party. His wife Dharmana Padma Priya was also elected as ZPTC member from Narasannapeta mandal in 2014 election. The husbnad and wife worked as district YSRCP chiefs earlier to strengthen the party.
Krishna Das was appointed Andhra Pradesh Olympic Association preseident by the state government a few days ago.
A national volleyball player, Das was Andhra Pradesh Olympic Association president during the Congress rule.
