These Candidates From This Party Had Highest And Lowest Margins
New Delhi: As pollsters predicted, the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance won a landslide victory in the 17th Lok Sabha elections. The BJP won 302 seats according to the Election Commission of India data. The Congress bagged 52 seats in the 542 seats in the Parliament.
Prime Minister Modi called it a "victory of honest people’s hope,” while Congress President Rahul Gandhi and AICC general secretary in-charge Uttar Pradesh (east) and his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra congratulated the Prime Minister on his second term.
The most interesting part of election result are the highest and the lowest margins. The 17th Lok Sabha elections saw these candidates with the margins. Have a look:
HIGHEST MARGIN
C R Patil - BJP
Not Prime Minister Narendra Modi, but BJP candidate from the Navsari Lok Sabha seat in Gujarat C R Patil won the seat with the highest margin in the 2019 general elections with a difference of 6.89 lakh votes. The record is the highest in this election, while it is the second highest ever in the election history of India. Modi was re-elected from his Lok Sabha constituency Varanasi by a margin of 4.80 lakh votes.
The record was first set by Pritam Munde, daughter of Gopinath Munde whose margin was 6.96 lakh votes in October 2014 after she won the by-election to the Beed seat in Maharashtra.
Amit Shah - BJP
BJP president Amit Shah made his Lok Sabha debut contesting from Gandhinagar in Gujarat and won by 5.5 lakh+ votes. Congress candidate CJ Chavda was his opponent. Winning the prestigious seat, Shah smashed the earlier record margin of 4.83 lakh set by party patriarch L K Advani in the 2014 general election. He is now expected to resign as Rajya Sabha member from Gujarat.
VK Singh - BJP
BJP leader VK Singh surpassed Modi in vote margin and won over five lakh more than Samajwadi Party’s Suresh Bansal in the Ghaziabad constituency.
Giriraj Singh - BJP
BJP candidate Giriraj Singh won by a margin of 4.44 lakh votes more than CPI(M)’s Kanhaiya Kumar in Begusarai.
LOWEST MARGIN
Bholanath - BJP
BJP candidate Bholanath managed to win the Machhlishahr seat in Uttar Pradesh by only 181 votes.
Other candidates who won by less than 2,000 votes include former chief minister of Jharkhand Arjun Munda (BJP) and Aparupa Poddar (All India Trinamool Congress).
Poddar won Arambagh seat in West Bengal by just 1,142 while Congress’s Kuldeep Rai Sharma defeated his nearest rival Vishal Jolly (BJP) by only 1,407 votes to win the Andaman & Nicobar Islands Lok Sabha seat. Munda won Khunti in Jharkhand by 1,445 votes.
