Visakhapatnam: Leader of the Opposition in Andhra Pradesh legislative assembly and YSRCP chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy assured the Muslim community of justice and upliftment under Rajanna Rajyam. YS Jagan said that the TDP government had ignored all sections of society, including the Muslim community, addressing a large gathering of members of the minority community.

YS Jagan asked the gathering to recall the tenure of late Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy and compare it with that of Chandrababu Naidu. He pointed out that the TDP had come up with a manifesto for Muslims in 2014. At that time in the two pages the TDP manifesto devoted to Muslims, it promised free education from KG to PG, Islamic banking, interest-free loans and other promises. The TDP manifesto also promised to implement Justice Ranganathan commission’s recommendations, fee reimbursement for professional courses and technical education and made several other commitments. The TDP realising that it was being questioned on its betrayal of assurances, took the manifesto down from its website.

Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy waged a prolonged struggle to ensure 4% reservation for Muslims. It was he who brought in complete fee reimbursement to empower students from the Muslim community. Dr. YSR also established  residential schools for Muslims across the state.

On the other hand, Chandrababu Naidu has done nothing for Muslims, except treat them as a vote bank. There wasn’t a single Muslim member in the cabinet, he said. Year after year, there is a huge gap between the budget allocated and actual expenditure, the YSRCP chief said.

Referring to the new-found love Chandrababu claims to have found in election year for Muslims, YS Jagan reminded the large audience about what took place during the TDP Nara Hamara convention in Guntur. Muslim youth who held placards questioning the AP chief minister on non-fulfilment of promises were arrested and tortured, he observed. They were branded as anti-nationals and traitors. What was their fault? YS Jagan told the audience that the youth reminded the AP chief minister about promises made by him such as madrasa school students’ bus passes, urdu medium schools and several other small issues. For this, they were moved for 30 hours from police station to police station, beaten and harassed. YS Jagan questioned—“who gave police this right”? They booked sedition cases against these young students imperilling their future. This incident exemplified the vengeful attitude of Chandrababu Naidu, he said.

YS Jagan told the gathering that at the time of Nandyal elections, Chandrababu had announced that the interests of students of Fatima College had been taken care of. These students who had  studied for 1 year discovered that MCI recognition had not been granted and were left high and dry. The YSRCP chief told the audience that these were meritorious students. When these students went to Vijayawada, Chandrababu, who had assured them of justice, now advised them to write the entrance again!

Chandrababu Naidu is an opportunistic politician who sails with parties according to political convenience, bereft of morality, the YSRCP chief reminded the gathering. The TDP supremo had allied with the BJP in 2004 and criticised it later. In 2014, he costed up to the BJP again. To cover up his political opportunism, he accuses the YSRCP of having a secret pact with the BJP, but everyone knows the truth, YS Jagan said.

YS Jagan assured the large Muslim gathering that welfare governance will be a priority under YSRCP and will be predicated on Navarathnalu. Muslims, BCs, SCs and STs will be given their just and rightful place in Rajanna Rajyam, he told them.
