Harish Rao Meets Gadkari, Seeks National Status For Kaleshwaram Project

Telangana Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao called on Union water resources minister Nitin Gadkari in Delhi on Tuesday. Ahead of the monsoon session of Parliament, Harish Rao put in a request for Kaleshwaram to be recognised as a national project. The Telangana minister also sought allocation of funds to ensure the project is completed on time. TRS floor leader in Lok Sabha, AP Jithender Reddy too was part of the meeting.

The minister impressed upon Gadkari saying Kaleshwaram fulfills all requisites to get national status. The Telangana government had asked the Centre to release Rs 20000 crore special fund to complete the project estimated to be completed at a cost of Rs 85,000 crore.

“I thanked the Union minister for according all the permissions for KLIS. Because of the timely clearances, KLIS work are going on at a rapid pace,” said Harish Rao post meeting with Gadkari.

Meanwhile, Telangana IT and Panchayat Raj minister met Smirti Irani in Delhi to seek sanction of 18 block-level handloom clusters for backward districts of Telangana. After meeting Smriti, KTR said that the union textiles minister had responded positively to his request.

Besides providing drinking water to people in Telangana, the Kaleshwaram project will irrigate about 37 lakh acres of parched farm lands in drought-prone areas of the state.
