Basara (Nirmal): Priests of Sri Gnana Saraswati temple here in the town are embroiled in a controversy after they took the processional deity (Utsava Vigraham) to Devarakonda town in Nalgonda district for performing 'Akshara Abhayasam' to children of a private school.

On July 28, temple main priest Sanjeev Kumar along with priest Pranav Sarma took the idol to Nalgonda district violating the rules of the temple. The incident came to light only after a video pertaining to it went viral on social media. The duo is currently absconding.

Taking the incident on a serious note, the Special Grade Deputy Collector issued notices to the priests for flouting the temple rules. It is learnt that a case has also been registered against the priests and the police launched a manhunt to nab them.

Meanwhile, locals staged protest in front of the temple demanding stern action against the temple priests for illegal shifting of the idol.

However, the temple authorities maintained that this was not the first time the idol was shifted for conducting 'Akshara Abhayasam'. Recently, the idol was brought to Yadadri on an official request.
