Police Attack Farmers At Midnight Near AP CRDA

Thulluru: In a brutal attack to curtail the farmers resistance against the government taking over the farm lands for constructing roads to the state capital, the police attacked the farmers inhumanly here yesterday mid-night. They also took into custody CPM and YSRCP leaders who came in support of the farmers.

Farmer from Thulluru Gadde Meera Prasad had decided not to hand over his farm land for the construction of highway and questioned how could government take up the work in his land without his knowledge. He was attacked brutally by the police for questioning the government and even tried to forcibly arrest him. In the melee, the farmer fell down and police left the scene as the things were going out of their control.

Earlier, Meera Prasad had approached High Court seeking to stop the construction of National Highway No 9 across his land which is being taken up by Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA). He informed that CRDA was not bothered about all the court orders and were going ahead with their work. He alleged that they were threatening people by using police force.

On receiving the information about the incident and the ruckus that was being created by the police, CRDA Deputy Collector Vijaya Kumari reached the spot and informed all the farmers that they had sought the police help only for protection and nothing more than that.
