Polavaram tenders: Transstroy retains L-1 status

The  high power committee appointed on the controversial tenders of Polavaram project delivered its decision on Saturday.

The committee gave its green signal in favour of Transstroy (India) Ltd and  recommended the Kiran Kumar Reddy Government to finalise the tenders worth around Rs 4,717 crore.  Now, it is the turn of the Chief Minister to take a decision to go ahead with the project works.

The Polavaram Indirasagar Project work had been awarded to L-1 bidder - Transstroy (India) Ltd and JSC Engineering Centre UES (Russia), a Joint Venture company. A controversy erupted over awarding tenders to Transstroy suspecting the credentials of the Russian company.   A team of higher officials had visited Russia and gave clean chit to the company and certified its technical resourcefulness.

The officials' trip to Russia  raised another controversy that the company had managed the officials' panel in Russia. Following the allegations, the Chief Minister appointed a high power committee to study in depth on the tenders. Polavaram tenders caused an uproar in the political circles as the  Transstroy (India) Ltd is understood to have owned by Rayapati Sambasiva Rao, MP from Guntur. The company was awarded as L-1 bidder out of six companies which had filed the tenders for the execution of the project.
